Unboxing ("the App") is developed and published by Essential Labs 8 ("we", "us", "our"). This privacy policy explains what data the App accesses, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.
The App helps users record unboxing videos for delivery dispute evidence, with automatic expiry and storage management.
We want to be clear about what we do not do:
The following data is created and stored entirely on your device and never transmitted to us:
Videos you record are stored in the App's private internal storage on your device. These files are not accessible to other apps and are automatically deleted based on your chosen retention settings (e.g., 7 days). You can manually delete any video at any time.
Information you enter or that is detected from shipping labels is stored in a local database on your device:
Your preferences (video quality, theme, retention period, notification settings) are stored locally using Android DataStore.
The App requests the following Android permissions:
| Permission | Purpose | Required |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Record unboxing videos | Yes |
| Microphone | Capture audio during recording | Yes |
| Notifications | Remind you before videos expire and when it's time to review an unboxing | Recommended |
| Boot Completed | Reschedule expiry check tasks after device restart | Automatic |
Camera and microphone data is used solely for recording and is stored only on your device. The App does not stream, upload, or transmit camera or microphone data.
The App uses Google ML Kit's on-device barcode scanning and text recognition to read shipping labels. These ML models run entirely on your device. No images or scan results are sent to Google or any external server.
Video compression, speed adjustment, splitting, and watermarking are performed on your device using Android's built-in MediaCodec APIs. No video data leaves your device during processing.
If you purchase the premium upgrade, the transaction is processed by Google Play. We receive confirmation of purchase status from Google Play but do not receive your payment details (credit card number, billing address, etc.). Google's privacy policy governs the purchase transaction: https://policies.google.com/privacy
The App checks for available updates through the Google Play In-App Updates API. This communicates with Google Play services on your device to determine if a newer version is available. No personal data is sent as part of this check.
The App does not integrate any other third-party services, SDKs, or APIs. There is no Firebase, no analytics, no advertising, and no social media integration.
The App includes export and sharing features that allow you to:
These actions are initiated entirely by you and use Android's standard sharing mechanisms. We have no visibility into what you share or with whom.
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Since the App does not collect personal information from any user, no special provisions are necessary.
Since all data remains on your device:
Since we do not collect or store any of your data on our servers, traditional data subject rights (access, portability, erasure requests) are not applicable. You have full control over all data through the App itself:
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
